PhD Student: Alya Al Foori
In brief
I obtained my Masters in Applied Finance from The University of Queensland in 2003. Prior to joining The University of Melbourne to start my PhD, I worked at the Sultan Qaboos University, in Oman, where I taught the principles of finance. My research interests include behavioural finance and corporate finance.
My PhD
My research is focusing on behavioural finance, a branch of the finance theory that can help explain such anomalies as market bubbles and can relate to questions of market efficiency. In particular, I am researching managerial overconfidence – focusing on the cognitive psychology and hence the biases of managers which affect their corporate financial decisions and policies. I expect that my research could assist corporate regulators better understand the anomalies in the empirical patterns and perhaps better formulate corporate policies that would possibly minimise managerial biases.
Preferred professional directions
I plan to continue my academic career at Sultan Qaboos University, Oman, where I have a lecturing position.
