PhD Student: Yangyang Chen
In brief
I completed the Master of Commerce (Finance), Master of Applied Commerce (Accounting), and Postgraduate Diploma in Finance at The University of Melbourne. I hold a Bachelor of Economics from the Beijing Technology and Business University.
My PhD
I anticipate that my PhD will reflect my current research interest in corporate finance, especially capital structure and payout policy. My empirical studies will examine the optimal ratio of debt and equity, as well as issues relating to dividend policy: how much firms needs to pay for dividends, whether or not it changes significantly and seeking trends. If I can find the forces behind the optimal debt and equity ratio then it can provide data that assists company CFOs to maximise the value of their firms. It would also enable investors to compare firms, distinguishing which achieve their optimum debt ratio and, therefore, their maximum value.
Preferred professional directions
My priority is to continue my research. Ideally, I would pursue an academic career or work in industry in a role that provides enough flexibility to enable me to keep up my research interests.
