Faculty of Economics and Commerce Department of Finance

About us

The Department of Finance is one of four departments in the Faculty of Economics and Commerce.

Our mission

The Department of Finance is committed to excellence in research and teaching in finance. We will achieve excellence by encouraging and rewarding superior performance by our staff and students and by fostering strong links with other universities and with industry and professional associations.

Location

The Department is located in the Economics and Commerce building at the University's main Parkville campus. Further location and contact details are available.

History

The Department was formally established in July 2001, although finance subjects had previously been taught at the University for many years. We have grown substantially since then, increasing our student numbers and establishing an excellent reputation for both teaching and research.

Teaching

The Department teaches both undergraduate students, as part of a Bachelor of Commerce, and postgraduate students, with a variety of Masters and Postgraduate coursework programs. The Department also has a strong Honours program, undertaken as an additional fourth year, specialising in finance.

Research

The Department’s current research interests span the field of finance and include asset pricing, derivatives, corporate finance, market microstructure, financial institutions, real estate finance, finance education and international finance.
