How to obtain a major in Finance
Students completing the following subjects (the "Finance Superhighway") will obtain a BCom with a major in Finance.

- 333-101 Finance 1
- 333-201 Business Finance
- 333-301 Investments
- 333-302 Corporate Finance
- 333-309 Derivative Securities
These subjects may be supplemented with specialised subjects in finance including Financial Planning (personal finance), Real Estate Finance, International Finance, Entrepreneurial Finance and Asian Capital Markets.
Entry requirements for 2008
The following information is reproduced from the BCom website
Students who achieve an ENTER of 90 or above and who meet the prerequisite requirements, will be guaranteed a place in the Bachelor of Commerce at Melbourne. Commonwealth supported places will be offered first, based on academic merit. All remaining eligible applicants will be offered an Australian fee place provided they have selected an Australian Fee Place as a VTAC preference.
Prerequisites:
- Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE): Units 3 and 4 – a study score of at least 25 in English (any) and Mathematical Methods (either).
- International Baccalaureate (IB): English and Mathematics – a result of grade 5 or higher in Standard Level or a result of grade 4 or higher in Higher Level
Applicants who have undertaken other equivalent qualifications must ensure they have completed subjects equivalent to the pre-requisite VCE subjects.
Other secondary qualifications:
- Interstate secondary qualifications: subjects equivalent to those listed under ‘VCE Units 3 and 4’. Refer to Course Search http://coursesearch.unimelb.edu.au/, choose the 2008 Bachelor of Commerce and select the relevant qualification to see equivalent prerequisites.
- Australian University Foundation Programs: Maths A and English, with a guaranteed entry score of 84.
- Trinity Foundation Studies: Maths 1a or Maths 1b (Maths 2 is needed for actuarial studies), EAP Score of at least 50%, English and History of Ideas, with a guaranteed entry score of 84.
- A-levels: Maths and one of General Paper (AO level) or AS level General Studies; English Language; English Literature; English Language and Literature, with a guaranteed entry score of ABC 12 points.
